THORNFEST – CAMP – 28.01.10 – 30.01.10

Posted in Uncategorized by Philip Howard on the February 24th, 2010

I woke up on the 27th January in a totally different frame of mind, almost elated, but not quite, almost excited but not yet and almost happy, but not ….well I actually was a tad happy as I was about to do something that I like. More than the feeling of exploring my soul, but the feeling of freedom… Not taking into account the cost in time and finances and the inconvenience of camping in an unknown place that may not have hot water no decent toilets or amenities and possible shitty weather, but the fact that I was doing something that made me feel like I was something… not important to anyone else, but to me… It is a great sensation.

JOZI ALL STARS – Milner hotel in Braamfontein – 06.02.10

Posted in Uncategorized by Philip Howard on the February 24th, 2010

Me, myself and all my glory was invited to attend the second screening of the band Jozi All Stars… now, now, don’t be critical over the name. I understand why they call themselves that and so will you when you take the time to see them. They consist of 3 main members, Ziza, Justin and Grant. But making up the frey in back up are performance artist that they prefer to use in gigs such as these. The trio all have their specific roles from sound engineering to direction and arrangement. Composition is shared across the board and sometimes introduced via lyrics or song its self

EVOLVER – Cool Running’s 4 ways

Posted in Uncategorized by Philip Howard on the February 24th, 2010

One of the first bands out side the genre I happen to have fallen into invited me to join then on a fucking pissdown of a night at Cool Running’s in Fourways.

This foursome of unshaved, definite out of the pop category typed guys who embody the typical laid back muso’s who play for the love, enjoyment, sensuality and heart of it…..

Pete Pote the lead vocalist who styles a distinctive voice that happened to have it mentioned in the FHM (possibly by Gordo himself….. **will have to investigate**) saying “Quite possibly the best voice in South African rock”…Well we will have to see the full set..

Back 2 Basix – 13.02.10

Posted in Uncategorized by Philip Howard on the February 24th, 2010

Arriving 30 minutes late at this avant-garde venue called Back 2 Basix in Westdene, where I was first introduced to the wide vocal of Chris Chameleon, who hosted a seven band event centred on the most irritating genre that I can tolerate…. Yes you guessed it (if your have been following my writing) they were featuring punk, punk and more bloody PUNK.

But I had to make a plan in seeing all as 2nd Guess’d was playing their new stuff and as you should know I favoured them to win the Thornfest Battle of the bands, so being here was a treat for me.

Boston Lounge – “The Uprising” – 20.02.09

Posted in Uncategorized by Philip Howard on the February 24th, 2010

Here I am again, again and more again…. it is like I am drawn here, no matter the circumstance, whether emotional or financial, the latter being so much more prevalent and I don’t mind at all.
The cute and desirable pink haired princess, called Gjervene really got me interested and …. Well I will say excited, for I respect my “old man” enough not to actually say what I feel (That I would like to …. **bleep, … Bleep till she says **bleep**,….. “bleep”), but never the less… she was amazing and in 6 onths this little cooking could be … hmmm !! you be the judge.
